What's New

This release includes the following new features and enhancements:

  • Model Viewer
    • Includes a new Projection List method for choosing a coordinate system (this is required when obtain imagery or terrain data).  Users just pick the category and the System to apply, instead of having to obtain a .prj file.
    • Added a new Cache Surface option to stop rebuilding the base surface.  This can enhance speed in regeneration as you add information into Model Viewer or apply other changes
    • New File > Save option in the Toggle Display form.  This allows saving the display state of surfaces and reloading at any time.
  • Roads
    • Section Manager (used by Cross Section plotting currently) now supports the inclusion of Add Extra Sampling sections.
    • The Create Draped Strings has been revamped to simplify draped string creation
    • Create Grading now has a dedicated Volumes tab making it easier to update and review volumes (Civil 3D users currently need to create  Civil 3D surface from the grading for volume output)
    • The Surface Volumes command has been revamped to improve accessibility to volume results (AutoCAD/BricsCAD only)
  • Labels
    • A new Chainage (Station)/Offset label has been included.  You can now label chainage/offset/elevation relative to an alignment and surface by clicking in the drawing - orientation is automatically relative to the alignment
    • All Civil Site Design labels now support User Editable Fields.  You can set up fields in the label text that you can then populate with unique text information (similar to attributed text in a block)
    • A 2 point slope label has been added for average slope between two points
  • Pipes
    • You can now import and support the ARR 2016 IFD Rainfall Data (Rational Method design).  The Import ARR 2016 IFD command allows users to select a downloaded .csv file from the Buerea of Meteorology website.
    • A command button has been added that will take users directly to the Buerea of Meteorology website to input their location and download the rainfall .csv file/s
    • The DRAINS exchange tools have been enhanced
      • We now read the DRAINS database output file to allocate pit and pipe families/types, as well as allowing users to allocate any Overflow Route template in the DRAINS database
      • We have a dedicated DRAINS Catchments command to allow direct one-to-one catchment input matching the DRAINS ILSAX catchment (the DRAINS developers advise that the ARR 2016 guidelines are incomplete.  As a result, we currently cannot export catchments for the ARR 2016 Initial Loss/Continuing Loss model (IL/CL method) into DRAINS. As soon as this is available the DRAINS Catchment will be enhanced with an option to input for the IL/CL method)
      • We have a DRAINS Overflows command allowing for assignment of DRAINS overflow templates per pit bypass, selection of a polyline to define the overflow length and slope to DRAINS and assignment of a percentage of the catchment to the overflow route.
      • The DRAINS Export command has been enhanced to provide the lookup table to pits and pipes.  You can select corresponding DRAINS pits and pipes to match CSD pits and pipes, accessed directly from the DRAINS database.  This will help prevent 'mapping' issues between CSD and DRAINS - as well, you set a Default DRAINS pipe/pit to apply in the event that the mapping is not assigned for a particular CSD pit or pipe
      • We reissue some of the DRAINS pit parameters (% blockage, sag pit depth and sag pit volume) so this data isn't lost during re-export from CSD
      • If you create new Pits and Pipes in DRAINS, these can now be added into Civil Site Design during import
    • When a pit is created, a block is assigned.  There is now a Set Pit Rotation command allowing users to set a pit rotation to apply to the block displayed, and to move the block insertion point (relative to the intersect of the pipes)
    • A new command has been added to set up the plot order of pipe networks when Plot All Networks is selected during the Plot Long Section command
    • House Connections can now be designed by seting the start/end elevation to aid in design of house connections
    • The Create/Edit HC command has been added ot the Edit House Connection dropdown - there is a button on the form that displays to edit an existing house connection.  This is useful when the house connection pits are repositioned and it is desired to rerun the house connection rules to obtain a calculated house connection end elevation

To learn more about Model Viewer, please check out this video playlist. We have complied 13 videos, which explain how to use and setup Model Viewer for your design projects.

Cross Section Plotting

There is a new Cross Section Plotting routine, accompanied by functionality known as object ‘tagging’.
You can stay old school - Access to the current plot engine is still available. Your ‘old’ plots should open in the new plot engine (check carefully though because some functionality differs).

We’ve made the following improvements:

Streamlined Interface

- Freely navigate the drawing with the plotting form open
- It’s now far easier to see what you’ve added with the new Treeview list
- Settings are grouped
- Bands are grouped
- The ‘Annotations’ (drawn items on the sections) are grouped
- Less buttons and less clutter
- Double click edit items – right click to edit or delete

Click button update of section outputs

- Display Update Status. Set this to auto and every change in the list of inputs will update the plot preview
- Outputted Sheets can Dynamically Update
- While you’re editing the VGE click the rebuild button to regenerate your section sheets
- Set dynamic update controls to regenerate all your section output sheets, for all strings, as you save design changes

New Bands

- You can now add extra Bands to your output sections
- Design Code Band
- You can now report the design Codes (including translation of the names for local code name requirements) in a band
- Layer Band
- Report offsets of any objects on selected layer/s in a band. Objects can also be ‘tagged’ with a name (see below).

Tagging Objects in the Drawing for Inclusion on Sections

- Use lines, polylines, circles, arcs to add Offsets and information to the cross sections. Name objects for inclusion in the sections, both in the bands and on the display

Offset Filtering Controls and Band ‘Grouping’

- Plot any surface (from Civil 3D or Civil Site Design) and intelligently filter the triangles. Filter based on grade break, height difference, offset or chord height difference.
- Clean display of important features, regardless of the data source
- Selectively filter grade breaks in each Surface

- Choose how the band contributes to the offsets of other bands – either add it to the ‘pool of offsets or treat it on its own

Band Text Display Controls Enhanced – Label Styles

- Don’t settle for a single line and ‘top left’ centred text – apply Label Styles for the bands. Justify the text where you want in the band, use ticks instead of lines and add blocks in the band.

More customisation Controls

- You can now use a block for the headings, in case you want something completely different to the ‘standard’ box and text offering
- Show sample lines in each Heading, to help correlate between the band and the drawn display
- In-band cranking is now supported, if that’s your thing
- The old layer list is gone – work natively with the layers you have created in the drawing.

Welcome Screen

The Welcome Screen will display when you first run a Civil Site Design command for the day. The Welcome Screen serves a number of purposes, which include:

- Automated software version checking. Users will be notified if their software is out of date and will have the ability to download and install the latest
- A live news/events page will keep users notified of upcoming training events, webcasts, and much more
- Access to the Civil Site Design blog, YouTube, and technical support pages
- Access to quick start tutorials, the help system, and readme notes

Users to have the ability to set the display frequency of the Welcome Screen.

Data Sharing

With the new Data Sharing tools you can now do more for data collaboration, based on spatial location (eg: Stage 1, Stage 2) and by industry (eg: Surface creation from surveyors, lot regrading and general earthworks, road designs, drainage and sewer).

Main new features:

- Share more. You can share all objects
      * Surfaces
      * Gradings
      * Alignments
      * Strings/Roads
      * Pipe networks
- Choose what to share, and what to ‘read in’
- Data share to a centralised folder or from the source data directory.
- Read in data to obtain full object control (minus editing) in a read only format.
- Click button synchronisation

  • fixing an issue with batters being added to roads by default
  • fixed rounding error that sometimes left out the last chainage in a road long section plot
  • fixed a but in 'only use other chainages' toggle in the road creation form - it was only reading one string in the list for additional sampling
  • fixed an issued with model building not trimming the RDUM code consistently
  • addressed two issued with the volume report regarding incorrect signing of cut/fill for volume totals and an issue with alignment lengths exceeding 1,000 affecting output reports

 New Labelling Tools

With the new labelling tools you have loads more control over how your ARD data is displayed. You can establish Label Styles to manage the display of labels for different objects, with labels consisting of any combination of text, blocks and polylines. Grip editing of objects that form part of the label group is fully supported, and selected objects can be grip moved in the drawing. Text can be associated with the polyline component of the label, so moving the polyine changes the position and rotation of the text. Text can also be anchored to a symbol (block) to set the insertion location of the text - moving the block in the drawing automatically repositions the text
Labels can now be created for the following objects:

  • Surface Labels: this includes spot elevations and slope direction labels
  • Elevations on Polyline: displays elevation and other information at the vertices of a polyline
  • Chainage at Polyline: displays chainage information for an alignment/string at a polyline vertex
  • Pipe Netowrk Labels: display pipe and pipe information on the plan. Incorporate your own block around your pit text label, set your own offsets and text information for your pipes
  • House Connection Labels: display house connection information on plan, and show more informaiton than ever before
  • Multi String: built for AutoCAD/BricsCAD users, this labels code information in plan, along a String
  • VC Labels: built for AutoCAD/BricsCAD users, this labels vertical geometry in plan, along an alignment
  • Distance: built for AutoCAD/BricsCAD users, this labels tangent segments along an alignment with bearing/distance

No more 'R-'required when creating a Civil 3D Alignment

Adding an 'R-' in the Alignment Description is no longer a requirement when creating a road object. If the Create/Edit Road command is used, than the software will assume a road object is being created. If the Create String/Profile command is used, than the software will default to creating a string object.

New 'Intelligent Sections' command

This command was created to replace the Multi Section Batters command and allows for the designer to create more powerful conditional based sections or batters. Users now have the ability to perform 'end depth checks' and have more control over how the depth check is calculated.

Grid Editor in the VGE

The Grid Editor allows users to add and edit their vertical IPs in a grid format.

When the Grid Editor is loaded, all IP's will be displayed. These IP's can be edited in the grid editor and the edit is instantly applied to the road or string. The user can override the chainage, level, and VC length and also quickly assign an elevation or grade difference between IP's.

One great feature of this command is the ability to apply a horizontal shift to the vertical design.
