IMPORTANT INFORMATION

New Licensing System

A new licensing system has been introduced from Civil Site Design V25 to support all Civil Survey Applications and provide an enhanced user experience.

If you are upgrading from Civil Site Design V24 or earlier, please ensure you have the license activation and login details to activate your new license.  The assigned Subscription Manager has been issued activation key/s and login details

NAHIMIC SOFTWARE INTERFERES WITH MODEL VIEWER

We have found that the software ‘Nahimic’ may prevent Model Viewer from displaying – the installation of Nahimic creates a conflict in Eyeshot (the graphics engine we use in Model Viewer).

If Model Viewer will not open, please check if Nahimic is installed. If so, updating Nahimic may resolve the issue. Uninstalling it will resolve the issue.

Nahimic software provides enhanced audio (typically for gamers) and is commonly installed with gaming laptops. More information about Nahimic can be found here: https://www.nahimic.com/gamers/

WINDOWS 11 UPDATE TO VERSION 24H2 AND MODEL  VIEWER .JPG IMAGE SCALE

The Windows 11 Version 24H2 Update introduces an error into the scale applied to images rendered onto a base surface in Model Viewer.  After installing this Windows update, the image will display at 200% scale in Model Viewer, measured from the top left corner of the image.

We recommend rolling back your Windows Update (or trying a newer update) if you experience this issue.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

CIVIL SITE DESIGN

You will need a V25 license Activation key to continue use beyond the default 30 day evaluation period.

Subscription customers can obtain their V25 license keys, and manage their user access and licenses, directly from the Civil Survey Applications Customer Portal:

CUSTOMER CENTRE

Both Single User (standalone) and Network licensing is available.  Please refer to the Software Installation Guide for more information:

Civil Site Design and Stringer Topo Compatibility

Because Civil Site Design and Stringer Topo share common functionality, there will be a requirement to update both applications if both are installed on the same computer.

When both products are installed on the same computer, updating Civil Site Design V24 to Civil Site Design V25 will update the licensing system, which will also impact the licensing (and operation) of Stringer Topo.  When updating one product (Civil Site Design or Stringer Topo) it is highly recommended to update both products (if both are installed on the same computer) to V25 to avoid conflicts.

New Features and Enhancements

New Features

  • Project Startup on a New Project
    • When starting a new project (first run of the software) users will now be prompted to create a new project data folder.  Users can select no, which will not create the folder or flag in the drawing that a data folder is required
  • Intersection Manager (ARDUV7AJEBINTERSECTIONMANAGER)
    • Added a new command to manage intersections.  Intersections are listed in a single form with naming convention of [Main road] – Ch [chainage] | Side Road
    • Intersections are identified as crossing roads or tee intersections
    • The Intersection Manager offers settings controls to apply to all intersections, including tee intersection detection, enabling/disabling all-crowned intersections, and omitting kerb return batters.  All intersections can be created, deleted or reset.  Batters can be excluded (prior to creation)
    • Each intersection can be designed:
      • Cross Road intersections can be converted to tee intersections for modelling and kerb return design
      • The main and side roads can be switched at cross road intersections
      • All kerb return radii, connection code and template can be changed
      • Intersections can be set as all-crowned or primary road controlled
      • Kerb returns can be deleted
    • Each kerb return is listed and can be designed
      • Radius can be edited or the Create/Edit Kerb Return opened to provide extended alignment controls
      • Kerb returns at each intersection quadrant can be set as all-crowned or primary road controlled
      • Individual kerb returns can be removed/omitted
    • The Intersection Manager can also be used from the Auto Kerb Return and Project Assist commands, and will display after running the Auto Create Roads command
  • Projected Profiles (ARDUV7AJEBPROJECTEDPROFILES)
    • Added a new command to allow any String to be projected onto the Civil 3D Profile View of another string.  This projects across the design IP’s (PVI’s) including vertical curves, from the selected string/s across to the alignment and profile view of the selected String.
    • There is also an Update Projected Profiles command (ARDUV7AJEBUPDATEPROJECTEDPROFILES)
  • Reference Profiles (ARDUV7AJEBREFERENCESTRINGS)
    • Added a new command to create a new string as a Reference to a Road centreline string.  the String created is used to represent (and adjust) the elevations of a Code on the Road String cross sections
    • The Reference Profile String shares the same alignment geometry as the reference Road centreline
    • Users select station ranges over which the design profile of the selected Road centreline will be copied to the Reference String (IP’s and vertical curves).  Outside of the selected ranges, the user is able to vertically edit the string
    • The referenced centreline design can be raised/lowered to represent the default elevation difference to the centreline
    • The Reference Profile string will also reference elevations from any Main Roads for design intersections
  • Section Volumes (ARDUV7AJEBSECTIONALVOLUMES)
    • A new Sectional volume reporting tool has been created to improve accuracy and user control, including graphical display of cut and fill areas and volume reporting based on a Named Section List
    • Users can now override the datum at the extents to represent construction requirements
    • Outputs include tabular reports, COGO points, polylines and surfaces for the datum design
  • Toolspace
    • Create using AI
      • Individual strings can be created using Project Assist.  Right click on any alignment to enable AI managed creation of the string
  • Project Administration
    • The Pack Data Settings form has been rebranded Project Storage and includes revision control (loading saved versions of the project stored on file).  Each version of the design is listed and the user can switch back to previous versions

Improvements and Changes

  • Starting a New Project
    • You are now prompted to start a new project, after running a Civil Site Design command in a new drawing.  Previously, running a Civil Site Design command automatically associated Civil Site Design with the drawing.  Click Cancel to not associate Civil Site Design with the drawing.
    • Applying Pack Mode (DWG Storage) is now ticked on as default
    • You can now name the project and add a description for reference.
  • Pack Data Settings(Project Storage)
    • The Pack Data settings folder has been enhanced.  A new Versions list has been added, listing all previous stored versions of the drawing and allowing the user to restore a previous version and make that current.
    • The default ‘temp’ folder for project storage has been changed to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\CivilSurveyApplications to prevent Windows from clearing this folder periodically
    • Packed drawings must now be stored in a set folder directory.  Previously, users could pack with the default localised path (where the drawing resided and linked only by the drawing name)
  • Autodesk 2025 Platform
    • Rewritten the Vertical Grading Editor engine in .NET8 (2025 platform) to deliver speed and performance improvements
    • Issues with using the Stereo 1970 coordinate system have been resolved.
  • Vertical Grading Editor > Auto Profile
    • The Auto Profile > Copy Strings calculation engine has been improved to handle IP’s outside of the alignment ranges and includes offset filtering controls
    • The Auto Profile > From Strings calculation engine has been improved to handle IP’s outside of the alignment ranges and includes offset filtering controls
  • Corridor Creation
    • Corridor output updated to manage all-crowned intersections
  • Surface Manager
    • Surface Manager now does not close when users select to Rebuild Surface for a built model
    • Limit visibility to only show functional controls when TotalModel surface is selected
  • ScriptX
    • Added new known variable of alignmentStartChainage and AlignmentEndChainage
  • Project Assist
    • Project Assist settings are now stored locally with a project.  Previously, the settings were always referenced from the CSD Settings folder.
    • Added a ‘Set as Default’ button to set these settings as the default for new projects

Fixes

  • Project Storage (Packed Data)
    • Fixed potential synchronisation issues between pipe and road data for packed projects
    • Fixed an issue with the Stop Software command not stopping the pipes database from running
  • Fixed errors that could occur in the Auto Profile > Copy String and Auto Profile > From String commands
  • Addressed an issue with duplicated ‘fast draw’ objects related to creating Models with a space at the end of the name.
  • Resolved Pipe Drafting layer creation issues when the layer colour is set to Bylayer
  • Fixed an issue with Corridor Exchange whereby the user selection of a Subassembly .pkt would fail to create a corridor.
  • The pipe draw function generated unexpected results when ByLayer was selected for the layer colour.
  • AutoCAD 2025 and Civil 3D 2025 Platforms only
    • Fixed an issue in the Assign Layers command whereby the user could not edit the colours assigned to Codes

Known Issues

  • Windows 11 Version 24H2 issue
    • The Windows 11 Version 24H2 Update introduces an error into the scale applied to images rendered onto a base surface in Model Viewer.  After installing this Windows update, the image will display at 200% scale in Model Viewer, measured from the top left corner of the image.
    • We recommend rolling back your Windows Update (or trying a newer update) if you experience this issue.
  • AutoCAD 2025, Civil 3D 2025 and CSD Plus V25
    • When using Load CAD, Model Viewer will not display Polyface Mesh, 3D solid or Region objects .  Recommendation is to convert these 3D object types to 3D faces before loading.
  • Section Volume command
    • Roundabouts display under the String group of ‘String’ in the Section Volumes command.
  • Project Storage
    • Versions will only be stored to the nearest minute – this is as designed
    • If any of the files in the -Data folder (CSA Data folder) are not available for read/write (which happens if you plot to file for long sections and xref back into the same drawing) then the software will not be able to pack
    • Some outputs (ie: Long Section > Plot to File) are made directly to the current CSA Data folder.  Given that the software creates uniquely named CSA Data folders whenever you save and reopen a packed project, the folder path to the latest data changes when you save, close and reopen the drawing.  It is recommended that any file being referenced (xreffed) be copied to a static folder location.
  • Using the Toolspace to turn surface contours and/or triangles on/off is not remembered when you close and reopen the drawing.
  • Custom Variations are not backwards compatible. Design Data containing Custom Variations should not be opened in a pre-V25 Civil Site Design. Doing so will render the Custom Variation inoperable in all versions.
  • Cadastral Lines command
    • If duplicate point numbers are created in a drawing, the software will automatically use one of the duplicates only
    • Mixing traverse lines and side shots will result in the ‘traverse’ polyline being removed up to the first side shot.  It is recommended to separate traverse lines and side shots into different groups
  • Acronis anti-virus and malware applications may assume that the Pack Mode process (whereby we zip the software data folder and include it inside the drawing file) is a possible malware threat.  This is a false positive and can be added to the allowlist.
  • If you run Save As on an unpacked Stringer project:
    • In AutoCAD/BricsCAD or CSD Plus
      • The Sampled Surface will display as a block in the drawing, able to be deleted.
      • If you have created Profile Strings (for long and cross section output, and point setout) the Sampled Surface (usually the surveyed surface) used when the Profile String was created will display as a block in the drawing, able to be deleted..
      • Drafting linework will reside in the drawing – running Cleanup will remove the drafting.
